Unlike The Flu, You Totes Should Share This With Your Friends
Three things I can pinky promise you are:
1. I'm opiniated enough - you won't see ChatGPT and others alike here.
2. It won't be perfectly polished (pun fully intended)
3. This is not a mortuary - expect some fun and bad jokes.
“Must remember to order printer cartilage where I sit down”
“The house is such a mess…”
“Why is my new offer not doing well? Why are people not buying? I’m doing everything right… Why is it not working? So frustrating…”
“Why has Jonathan given iPad to William AGAIN?! How many times do we need to discuss this?”
(**proceed to plan in my head exactly what I’ll say to him and articulate all arguments, even though I know this conversation will never happen**)
If you have this constant narration going on in your head — you’re in very good company.
As in around 8-billion-people-good-company.
We all do it. And you might think that this internal voice is the real you. But it isn’t YOU. And hear me out because this might just change your life.
Random thoughts flow into your mind all of the time — day in and day out. It’s as constant as breathing and stopping these thoughts is difficult — ever tried silent meditation? Yeah, it’s tough!
What makes these thoughts so believable is that they sound like you. They have your voice — so you start to believe them.
Here’s the bummer — that narration is, overwhelmingly likely, an absolute asshole.
The challenge we all have is that we are all running lives and businesses with these asshole gremlins constantly narrating your day, daydreams, doubts and fears. It can be difficult to stay upbeat and motivated in your business with the constant nagging. Especially, since they often pray on your insecurities, on your deepest fears.
I always had this deep fear that I’m not interesting enough, that I don’t have anything of value to add.
And I know where it comes from.
I grew up with an older brother who is quite a character. And he liked to remind me that “I was just a silly kid”, that I wasn’t cool and he dismissed anything I had to say. So I grew up thinking he was a smart one and I was… Well, I was just me.
I co-live with my gremlins daily but understanding that they are not ME did help me a lot.
And I hope it will help you too.
If you find yourself going down the rabbit hole with your own personalised set of gremlins — have a reality check.
Ask yourself — have you ever come across a challenge before where you disintegrated completely instead of tackling it face on?
No?
Yeah, I didn’t think so.
You dealt with all the drama, crap and challenges life threw at you before. Is this obstacle any different?
If the gremlins persist — change your thoughts.
Here’s how:
Imagine a pink polar bear splayed on a sheet of ice, wearing a black studded leather jacket. Got it?
Congratulations! You’ve just chosen another thought. And just like that you can choose another thought of confidently launching your latest service and enjoying the process.
Simples!
It’s simple, but not easy. The action of choosing a positive, encouraging thought will be a conscious process to start off with.
You’re not your gremlins.
You have a habit of listening to them.
For the next 60 days, promise yourself to actively choose positive thoughts and as soon as you notice a gremlin, don’t engage, let it pass and choose another thought.
Your life and your business will thank you for it.
